Regarding the June 19 front-page article "Opponents of Redskins' name land a punch":
The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office's decision to cancel the Washington Redskins' trademark registration provides another important cudgel for opponents of the team's name. However, those wishing to have the name changed are wasting their time to press owner Dan Snyder; he has no desire to change the name, which is his prerogative. Their efforts should be directed at newspapers, sportscasters and TV announcers at National Football League games, urging them to stop using this horrifically racist name. The more successes they have, the more isolated Mr. Snyder and the Washington team will become until he decides it is best to join society as a whole.

With so much of import happening in our country, it's sad that our elected officials in Washington have devoted time to the Redskins' name issue. I suspect the team will be renamed to allow this distraction to go away. I believe there is only one appropriate name for a team representing Washington: the Gridlockers.
